Ms. Urmila Srivastava

Ms. Urmila Srivastava, born Feb 17th, 1956, is the first woman, who became the Secretary of Harijan Sevak Sangh founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1932 in its history of 92 years.

She is M.A., B.Ed., Sahitya Ratna, a social activist working with rural people with an active interest in the field of education, health and agriculture. She believes Gandhian values and has dedicated her entire life for social causes. She has vision of managing sustainable rural development and bringing innovation for education through Gandhian philosophy. She has done remarkable work in this arena. She is the President of Sarvodaya Ashram, Hardoi founded by her husband late Ramesh Bhai, who was a leader, visionary and Gandhian from the core of heart. He founded the Ashram and led it to glorious heights. Unfortunately, he passed away on November 19, 2008 at the young age of just 57 years, since then Urmila ji is the President of the Ashram. Urmila ji is also Vice President in Bhuraj Seva Sansthan and Manager of Adarsh Inter College, Hardoi. Ms. Srivastava was Member of Council of Mahatma Gandhi Chitrkoot Gramodaya Rural Vishvavidhyalay, Treasurer: Uttar Pradesh Voluntary Health Association, Llucknow 2012–2015, President: Vinoba Sewa Ashram, Shahjahanpur 1980–1997,Member: Uttar Pradesh Bhudan Board, Lucknow 1977-1979, UP Land Reform Committee, Lucknow 1975-1977 She is also connected with many Committees.

As President of Sarvodaya Ashram she has experience to work with many funding agencies SPWD, CARE, British High Commission, UNICEF etc.

She undergone Managing Sustainable Rural Development from University of Birmingham Training in United Kingdom. Trained on Group Development from National Institute of Rural Development, Hyderabad. Visited England, France, Canada and Sri Lanka. These visits were to learn, share and present the innovative work and presented paper on Udaan, in the famous Alberta city hall of Canada.

Ms. Srivastava Lead multiple programs of various UP Govt. and Central Government initiatives under Govt. of India in the area of community education development and agriculture for diversified practices, land reclamation etc., Actively participated in Jago Re Yatra organized by Govt. of India. This Rath yatra visited 30 districts of UP for Gender sensitization of judiciary. Worked for the communal harmony in various affected areas of Moradabad, Gonda, Meerut in UP and in Kashmir for maintaining peace and harmony in the place. Trained UP’s Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan district coordinators of 54 districts on innovation in education. Trained Bal Akhbar Module to UP master trainers of education department KGBB of Uttar Pradesh through UNICEF.

Dr.Nisha Bala Tyagi

Dr.Nisha Bala Tyagi has done her doctorate in Gandhian Philosophy and post doctorate research in Gandhi and Tolstoy from Delhi University.Nisha is a retired professor from Miranda House ,Delhi University.She has been Deputy Dean Academic ,Gandhi Bhawan, and Deputy Proctor ,Delhi University.Nisha has been to Gandhi Foundation(U.K),Berlin and Erlangen University (Germany ),U.S.A and Sweden to lecture and paper presentations on Gandhi. In Berlin,she had also signed a manifesto against conspiration and the military system.She has also published a book on ‘Goodness:The Gandhian Way of life’from Gandhi Peace Foundation.She has published a number of research papers and book reviews.Nisha has also been associated with post graduate teaching in the Department of Philosophy ,Delhi University.She is also an academic member of the the Athens Institute,’a world association of Academics and Research’.
